Warum KIUBIQ? Die Suche nach der perfekten Box

Why KIUBIQ? The search for the perfect box

There are some things you just can't find—so you have to build them yourself. That's what happened to me with the "perfect box." I searched for a long time for a solution that could do it all: practical, stable, comfortable, modular. Sounds simple? But it wasn't.

From Euro boxes to fruit crates – nothing really fit

I've tried pretty much everything: Euroboxes, Systainers, fruit crates – in the camper, in the workshop, in the apartment. None of these solutions were truly satisfactory.

  • Systainer: Technically sophisticated, but expensive, made of hard plastic, and not at all comfortable to live in. Plus, you can't simply rotate it 90° to turn it into a shelf.
  • Euro boxes: Robust, inexpensive, stackable – but they scratch easily, look out of place in the living area, and cannot be connected.
  • Fruit crates: Rustic, but often too rough for shelves. The stiffening corners waste a lot of space, and then there's that artificial "used look"...

Each of these solutions did something well, but never everything. So I asked myself: What would the perfect box look like?

The requirements for the perfect box

I wanted a box that:

  • stable enough for workshop, van or camper
  • has a real wood surface that ages beautifully
  • can be used as a shelf – just turn it, done
  • is easy to connect to build larger furniture
  • is inexpensive to produce without compromising on quality or design
  • remains repairable – no throwaway mentality

MDF was out from the start – too heavy, too fragile. So, multiplex was the answer. Real wood, solid, durable, and with a natural surface that works even untreated.

The first prototype – and why I never stopped

I built the first speakers for myself and my family. They were used everywhere: in the apartment, in the basement, in the car, in the van. What began as a private project slowly took on a life of its own.

At some point the first questions came: “Where can I buy them?”
Good question – there was nothing comparable on the market.

So I started KIUBIQ.

KIUBIQ today: More than just a box

The basic grid that emerged back then is still in place today. I've refined the system over the years, but the principle has remained the same: a modular furniture and camping system that adapts flexibly.

Whether as a shelving system, camper conversion, or workshop solution – with KIUBIQ, everyone can create their own space. And the best part: It grows with them.
